I painted this quiet landscape after taking a quick photo on my phone of these horses grazing with the evening pinks in the background.
Looking east from Norwood, you can see the snowcapped mountains beyond Telluride, while the sun was setting behind me over the La Sals.
Norwood sits on a mesa between the two, and I’m constantly inspired by the way the light moves across this landscape. This painting is my attempt to capture one of those simple fleeting moments—the horses, the open fields, the mountains in the distance, and that soft evening glow.
This is one of my personal favorites.
