NORWOOD STUDIO
Recording & Production in Norwood, Colorado
I've been producing records out of Norwood for the last several years, working with artists including Daisy Mayer, Sam Weiser, Ty Jackson, Lily Akers, Emily Quayle, my own projects, and others. It's gradually grown into a pretty special little recording setup.
The studio is on a private 35-acre ranch in Norwood, about 45 minutes from Telluride. It's quiet, rustic and very Southwest Colorado—more like going away somewhere to make a record than booking time at a conventional studio. There's even a glamping yurt on the property for artists who want to stay on-site and make a few days of it.
The funny part is that while the setting is decidedly rustic, the recording equipment isn't. Obi has assembled a pretty remarkable collection of high-end analog gear, microphones, preamps, compressors, amps, pedals and instruments. It's the kind of stuff you'd expect to find in a much more expensive room. So you get the mountain-recording experience and top-shelf gear without top-shelf Telluride prices.
My role can be as involved as you want it to be. At the simplest level, I can engineer the session and run the DAW. For most projects, though, I'm producing as well—helping with arrangements, performances, vocal coaching, instrumentation, comping and editing, and generally helping figure out what serves the song. Pre-production and post-production can happen separately or we can do most of it together while we're making the record.

Around the Studio
There's a growing collection of instruments and amps on hand—piano, Nord keyboard, organ, accordion, acoustic guitars, Telecaster, mandolin, Fender and Marshall amps, a ridiculous collection of pedals, percussion and assorted other things to make noise with.
The basic pricing structure is intentionally simple: the studio/gear has a flat day rate, and my production/engineering time is hourly. Pre- and post-production are hourly as well, and if you'd like me to play or sing on the record, we can add that for a small additional fee.
The goal isn't to rack up studio hours. It's to have enough time, space and good equipment around us to make something we're actually excited about.
If you've been sitting on a batch of songs, thinking about a single, or wanting to finally make that record, send me what you're working on and we can talk about whether Norwood makes sense for it.
